Causes

The liver is one of the principal organs of the body. Its functions include filtering the blood, producing bile and amino acids, and serves as a storage site for glucose. When the liver is enlarged or "fat", the body can suffer serious side effects, some of which can be fatal if not treated. Here are some of the factors that cause liver or liver enlargement.

Liver size is an indication of how important their role in meeting the metabolic needs of the organism and the maintenance of homeostasis of the day. The liver performs over 500 different functions in the body. As part of the digestive system, the liver helps the body digest fats.

It manufactures and secretes bile, regulates levels of chemicals in the blood, synthesizes proteins, waste products from the filters into the bloodstream, and receives nutrient-rich blood from the gastrointestinal tract, transform and store these nutrients in the products chemicals used in other parts of the body.

Symptoms

Liver enlargement is often referred to as hepatomegaly. It is not a disease itself. Rather, it is a possible symptom of certain health problems like cancer, congestive heart failure or hepatitis. Usually, an enlarged liver has no symptoms, especially as the liver has no nerves.

In cases where the liver becomes too large, the pain experienced when the abdomen is touched. A little discomfort occurs when the liver exerts pressure on surrounding organs and nerves due to enlargement. When the liver fails to function normally due to its enlarged, which can lead to jaundice.

Once the cause enlargement of the liver have been identified, treatment can begin. Excessive alcohol consumption is a common cause of liver enlargement. When this is the case, your doctor tells you to stop drinking. If alcohol is not a cause, then some changes in lifestyle may be in order. Exercise and weight control become extremely important.
